If your using wireless internet, try connecting it directly to the cable modem or router. If the internet is really fast after connecting, than there is something wrong with your wireless card. I had an issue like that and i exchanged the laptop and it works great now.

I think its terrible. The system requirements for programs increase dramatically if youre using it. I was looking at a pc game it said system requirements (RAM) were half a gigabyte with xp and a full gigabyte for vista.
In my opinion, Windows Vista is not a great system yet. I think it has way too many bugs yet, and in my case, slows down my internet to almost a 56k modem and I have a broadband connection.

A lot of software will probably have updates online to help it work with Vista.. I know that I have a lot of programs that I've installed on Vista that work fine even though they're pre-Vista, but some other things need specific drivers to work right. I'd check out the website for the business plan writer software you have, and see if it has any troubleshooting for Vista-use.

Heck 1GB is good enough for running regular apps, surfing and email. 2 and 3GB's of RAM is pretty much for running graphic programs like Photoshop, After Effects, Maya and other imaging and Animation programs.

You don't say what brand of printer, I suggest you go first to your printer's manufacturer's website for any new drivers.

You might then try deleting all printers from your printer folder in the control panel then restart windows and see if it picks up your printer via the add new printer wizard.

It maybe there isn't a current Vista driver for your printer, in that case you must have a pretty old printer.

It might also pay you to check all cables - you did that right?

The main problem is that Vista is ahead of its time in terms of what producs are currently available.

A lot of programs and games made for XP are not compatible with Vista. Windows XP hardware does not handle Vista drivers very well. Vista uses DirectX 10, which most graphics cards don't support very well.

In a year, Vista will have a lot more compatible with it, and it'll eventually replace Windows XP.
Vista is made for the latest fast and big memory computers. But like all Microsoft products has it been put on the market with more bugs than real ones in the Amazone jungle. 256. it will work on 128MB I had it work on 64 MB but it used to crash when I watch TV om my computer, so to be on the safe side 256.

You see, external hard drives have been built with a special physical format which is not compatible with running operating systems but actually just storing the data from a working OS. What I mean is that you can hold operating system files but cannot run them as an individual real time application whereas movies, music, photos etc. are stored in their but run by applications on your current OS. So it unfortunately is not possible. Sorry.

You have your anti-virus.

Windows firewall has only inbound protection, not outbound, so it's only 陆 a firewall. It can be configured for outbound protection, but it's an absolute nightmare trying to set it, not worth the effort. I would recomend getting ZoneAlarm %26 turning off the Windows firewall.

Windows 95 is still not totally obsolete yet 12 years later. MS does not support it anymore, but I know of a couple of computers still running it. I believe Windows 98 is no longer supported as of end of last year or beginning of this year. So, I give XP at least another 5 years with support from MS. As for totally obsolete, maybe about the year 2035.
upgrading even a medium sized network can be pretty costly. The hospital I work for is still running windows nt......i'm sure xp will be powering quite a few networks for some time to come.

Faulty disk drive or faulty disk (it may be scratched) most likely.

If you can, try the disk on a different computer to check it isn't damaged. If it works, buy a CD/DVD drive cleaner. If it doesn't you could try this, it's worked for me once or twice, but not always. Be careful though.

Have you checked your BIOS thoroughly? If the BIOS is set up correctly, try another bootable disk, like Ubuntu(linux.org). If this works, your Vista disk is broken. If this CD doesn't start either, your disk drive is smashed. If it's a new computer it could be under warranty. I couldn't make up from your question if you already had an OS installed (e.g. XP). If 'simple' (audio CD's, other software discs) don't work either, you could try to Google for the brand of your CD-drive. If it's a problem that's reoccurring, there may be a Windows Registry fix or whatever.

If it allows you to install it... I wouldn't recommend it! A cheap fix might be using a USB Memory Stick to bolster your memory until you can buy the real stuff thanks to new Windows functionality. Unfortunately, Windows OS's are still memory hogs!

Well it would be really helpful if you provided the specs of your computer, but from what you say, it seems better to buy a new computer. Besides not all Win 2000 operating systems, if any, can handle vista. have you tried the Windows vista upgrade adviser, to see whether your system can handle vista or not? if so you should try it, as not all systems can manage it- you may end up losing you computer. but my advise to you is, if you have the means, buy a new computer, because you may end up with more problems upgrading to vista, as oppose to buying a new computer or upgrading certain components.
Trust me, your best bet is to update the operating system. Buying another pc would definitely be overdoing it and it's more expensive. Make sure your memory can handle the download and you'll be fine.
I wouldn't suggest "upgrading" to Vista, it's a huge resource hog and still has bugs. If you want to upgrade, upgrade to XP...you'll be much happier.

The product key of your computer and Microsoft Word are two different product key numbers. Microsoft product key should be on the Cd's case that had Microsoft cd. The product key found on your computer deals with other softwares such as Windows Media player. It has nothing to do with microsoft word.
Most likely the copy of MS Office that came on that computer was a trial version. You would have to purchase a license from MS to keep that product. Otherwise I suggest going to http://www.openoffice.org and download and install OpenOffice. It's a great Office suite and it's FREE.
As others have said, the product key on the computer is for Vista, not Word (even though it's called "Word Vista"). I think if you just hit Enter it will let you use the package for 30 or 60 days, however, at the end of that time, and apparently without warning, it will let you read your files, but not edit them or create new ones. You have to purchase Microsoft Office 2007 to do that.

Don't bother. Lots of Limewire P2P stuff won't download because of firewalls etc. It is a dodgy site.A lot of the downloads are illegal and someof the files shared are full of viruses etc. Best leave it alone.
If you're running McAfee delete it, it doesn't like limewire, go with NOD32.

You need a Vista compatible driver, an NT 4.0 driver is VERY old, there is little chance of finding a Vista driver.
