Is a memory stick enough to transfer about 300 music files from Xp to a new machine using Vista?

The website says nothing about ability to use a cross-over cable. Do I need to buy an external hard drive?????

Is a memory stick enough to transfer about 300 music files from Xp to a new machine using Vista?product key

It depends on how large the memory stick is. You're better off burning them...

CDs hold 750MB of data.

DVD holds 4.7GB

You can burn your music to DVD it doesn't matter than the format is DVD. DVD holds more data than a CD and probably more than your memory stick.

Don't make it more complicated than it is.

Is a memory stick enough to transfer about 300 music files from Xp to a new machine using Vista?triumph

You can if you want too. But you can buy a 1 gig thumb drive or flash drive to move those files also or back them up on a CD-R/W etc..
that should be fine with a 2GB memory stick. That is how I did it.

I would avoid Vista like the plague. Remember Windows ME? Same problems - same BS hype. Stick with XP until MS works out all of the bugs (or gives us a better OS)
Why don't you just network the two computers? You should be able to easily determine how big your music folder is and what you'd need to transfer it. I use a storage drive for my vids photos and tunes.
Depends on how big the memory stick is, usually 300 songs can run from anywhere up from a minimal of 2 gigs. So you could easily burn them all to a disc them take them off the disc and put them on your new computer, or you can transfer say 100 songs at a time on the usb stick.

External hard drives are handy to have around but for you there is no need for it. A cross over cable is pretty much useless too unless you really want one.

if you have anymore questions i would be glad to help just send me an email

note: not all ibm laptop has a windows start button. you can use an alternative shortcut ctrl+esc at the same time to bring up the start button. depending on the video, you may need to download the codecs for it. example, wmv files are windows movie video files.

Installing Windows XP on a new HP laptop which comes with Vista?

Im planning to purchase the new HP DV6000 series notebook. However, the laptops only come with Windows Vista as an O/S which i do not want. It is possible for me to use my friend's hp laptop boot cd (which has windows xp) to install windows xp on to my new laptop?

Installing Windows XP on a new HP laptop which comes with Vista?software

No. The boot CD from your friend's laptop most likely has an OEM version of Windows XP on it. That means it's only licensed to be used on the machine that it came with. One way to tell is to look at the CD. If it says anything like "for distribution only with a new PC," then it's definitely an OEM version.

Whether it's OEM or not, using your friend's CD to install XP on your laptop would be pirating. Don't go there!

If you want to install XP on your new laptop that came with Vista, you're going to have to bite the bullet and shell out for a new retail copy of XP.

Installing Windows XP on a new HP laptop which comes with Vista?vincent

The only way to put XP on a Vista machine is by formatting the hard drive and installing a full verison of XP. XP cannot go on a the second dual boot b/c the newer verison has to be loaded last. Your friends CD will most likely not work b/c it will look for hardware that may not be installed on your computer.
It can't. The CD or DVD will not functioning by default. The manufacturer usually includes program to identify if that machine used to recover or install the OS...is the correct target.

Will microsoft update vista in the near future?

I'll tell you this. I absolutely hate windows vista. it looks a lot softer and nicer but it lacks a lot. will microsoft come out with some sort of software or upgrade to make your hardware(printer, graphics card, etc) and software(older games) with vista or is vista gonna suck forever? the reason i ask this question is because i need a new laptop and sooner or later i won't be able to choose the option of having xp on my computer. and installing xp is a hassle.

Will microsoft update vista in the near future?spyware removal

It's not up to Microsoft to release drivers for printers, graphics cards, modems, etc. They have been unfairly blamed in this. It's up to the manufacturer's to release drivers that work with Vista for their products. Many companies have been slack in this even though they have had the specs for Vista for years.

Backward compatibility for games would be good but it's unlikely. Microsoft will look to move forward and new software will be created to replace the old, just like new games will make you forget about the old ones.

The 1st patch SP1 is on the way...Or just wait til Windows 7 comes out.
you should've stuck with XP for at least another year... history repeats itself
I sure hope so, because I don't like this piece of CRAP!
OS X is way better than windows, but thats besides the point....anyway there will be a service pack 1 coming out next year for vista. until then good luck! and the sad news is there is a SP 3 for XP which is suppose to make XP run 10% faster while vista stays the same.
Vista SP1 is in select beta testing at present and is scheduled for full release in the late spring or early summer of 2008. Even then it would be avdisable to wait another couple of months after that to ensure it is stable and not full of bugs.

You can follow some of the more popular blogging sites that has news on the new features for Vista SP1. Here is one for your perusal.

Why is it when i shutdown my windows vista,it blacks out and displays a blue error screen,?stinger

In general terms the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) can be caused by many different problems and Windows has shut down in order to protect the system. Most BSOD problems are caused by installing new incompatible software or indeed new hardware that has an incorrect driver or somewhere something has become corrupt. In any event you might just be able to roll back your system to a good state before the problems started occurring:

Re-boot your system in Safe Mode: This can be achieved by continually pressing F8 during the boot sequence. You should now see an option to boot your system at the last good boot 鈥?select this and if it works give yourself a pat on the back.

Assuming the above failed it is possible that your boot sector or boot files on your hard drive have become corrupt. You can attempt a fix by booting from your 鈥楻ecovery鈥?CD and following the instructions for 鈥楻epair鈥?

If and when the repair has finished you will get the C: prompt. Now type chkdsk /r (NOT chkdsk/r but chkdsk space /r) and press return (enter). This means run a program called check disk and repair any faults found on the hard drive. Sorry but we have not yet finished because I am now going to assume that your Windows Loader file is corrupt and it is this that is causing your BSOD message.

I want to transfer all my music on my Mac OS X part of my hh to Vista without using an external hh. Is that possible?

Is there a way to transfer files from Mac OS X to Vista through your Boot Camp, so I don't have to use an?symantic

Yes.

You can use MacFUSE to access Windows' disks in Mac OS. Read about it here:

http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifehac...

The article says it's experimental, but at this time it's well past the beta stages and should be stable.

You can use MacDrive to go at it the other way (read Mac disks from Windows) You find that here:

http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdri...

MacDrive is not free.

MacFUSE is.

Alternatively you could format the Windows drive as FAT and not NTFS, but you'd be sacrificing functionality in the process.

What is the difference between the Windows OEM Vista and the normal Windows Vista?

Is there any?

What is the difference between the Windows OEM Vista and the normal Windows Vista?symatec

OEM (Original Equipment Manafacturer) is provided from you Hardware vendor and may contain special drivers or software needed to install the OS on you computer. Normal or Vanilla version is the one provided from Microsoft and does not contain the additional drivers

What is the difference between the Windows OEM Vista and the normal Windows Vista?vista

The actual software on these disks is the same. The difference is that an OEM disk has some restrictions. It can only be loaded to one system. It can not be transfered to a second system if the first system crashes. And there is more. But, like I said, the functionality of the two is the same.

OEM applications are those that are built for folks who manufacture computers. They take the OEM app and add all of there advertising and what ever before installation.

1st install the xp in other drive.then work on xp os . go to my computer %26 format the drive in which the vista is installed . u can now work easily
Well, you need the xp CD to install xp.
well, one thing I have learned is dont ever remove a windows os before installing the new one or that pc is dead in the water...you can take it to a repair shop and have them do it for you, or try to figure out what exactly is wrong with your vista.
Format your hard disk , than install windows xp

If you search Google for "Royal Noir" you will find downloads to the official unrelased Windows XP theme. Royal Noir gives XP the dark look similar to Vista's aero color scheme.

Another XP Theme exists called "Royal Blue", Microsoft only released that to Windows Media Center Edition 2005, but that too can be found on the web and installed on Windows XP Home and Pro systems.
you get it from http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/1089/make...
Try "Vista Transformation Pack": http://www.windowsxlive.net/?page_id=15

It's pretty amazing, and beats any other skin I've ever seen.

Best of all - it's free!

Download it from Here: http://www.getvtp.com/
You may want to try searching for them on the Internet.

Perhaps you should also try using Window Blinds, but I believe you have to download that program.

How Much RAM does windows vista home premium 32bit support??

Im thinking of upgrading but i want to know how much it supports. Does all versions of windows vista 32bit support the same amount. please post a link if u can of how much ram it supports.

How Much RAM does windows vista home premium 32bit support??vincent

Based on book "Vista Inside Out" by Microsoft Press is 4 GB, but some people said 3 GB

How Much RAM does windows vista home premium 32bit support??adware remover

If it is Vista home premium 32 Bit with Service pack 1 it will support upto 4 GB, else it will support upto 3 GB only.
I have it... Hate to say this... But the actual amount 3.5 GB for Vista Home Premium.

You can add 4 GB... But it will only recognize 3.5... then you have to minus what your OS will use and Graphics Card from the 3.5.

I recommend going with 3 GB... (1 GB x 2) %26 (512 MB x 2) If you have 4 memory slots.

The reason I say three... is memory must be installed in pairs.
* 32-bit versions of Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate: 4GB

* 32-bit Windows Vista Starter: 1GB

* 64-bit versions of Windows Vista Home Basic: 8GB

* 64-bit versions of Windows Vista Home Premium: 16GB

* 64-bit versions of Windows Vista Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate: 128GB

It could be tied to the graphics card you are running with. If the machine is using a "stock" factory card, then it might not be adequate for the graphic requirements of the game. Also, how much memory are you running? RAM might also be an issue.

Does anyone else find Windows Vista difficult to use?

I don't know why people say it runs slow as its a lot faster than XP on my laptop (2gb).
The reason everyboby complains about Vista is because they need to upgrade their PC so it can run Vista smoothly, but eventually no one wanna spend money!

Actually, I'm a real big fan of dc++ network hubs which is where I got my copy.

Remember to grab the activation workaround along with the disc image. and also....it'll come with instructions but in case you get a head of yourself don't use a serial key on install (leave it blank) makes the activation workaround process much easier later on

Is there a place I can go to down load windows vista free?anti virus protection

I think you can download themes that will make XP appear like Vista..
not legally, no... i suppose you could check on say limewire that kind of thing. honestly though I would wait to get it, if you get it at all. there's bound to be tons of bugs.
legally? for free? I doubt it, very highly, unless your computer came with a free upgrade. I mean yea, there's always limewire, but there's bound to be oodles of viruses and other bad stuff integrated into it
don't bother. vista is still incredibly buggy and insecure. either wait a year or two before you upgrade, or if you need a new OS now for free, try ubuntu linux. it is always free and legal, it is very stable, and there are loads of places on the internet to get help if you run in to any problems.
Vista is a commercial software product. Downloading it without paying for it is illegal. And even if you do, it won't help. Microsoft has gotten tired of hundreds of millions of criminals stealing their software, so Vista has some strong anti-piracy measures built in. When you install Vista, you have to connect to Microsoft's servers to activate it. Activation uses a unique code that can only be used for one computer. If you have an illegal copy of Vista, it won;t activate. In 30 days your computer will go into reduced functionality mode. It will remove all desktop icons and the start menu, and then it will start IE and take you to the Microsoft site where you can purchase a legal copy of the OS. If you don't, it will shut your computer down after one hour of use.

It'a a PITA for legit, honest users, but a bunch of bad apples spoiled it for everyone else.
Try limewire. I heard you can downlaod programs from there.

How come my pictures will not all load up when I use my SD slot in my new Windows Vista Computer?

I have to at least load them 2 or 3 times so that all of the pictures on the card will load. They will all load but you can not view each pictures, some will be there and then others only part of the picture will load. What do I need to do to fix this problem.

How come my pictures will not all load up when I use my SD slot in my new Windows Vista Computer?vista

Sounds like a memory problem. You have so much stuff running that it takes a forcing of cache to get enough space to display the pictures. Try turning off all the unneeded add ons that load at start and closing out a few programs that are running in the background. Might want to check the virtual memory settings (help menu will guide you) and do a disk cleanup and defrag through system tools. As a last resort, spend money and buy a memory upgrade.
