How can I select what shows and doesn't show up on my computers task bar?[I have windows vista]

I just bought a new computer with vista and there are a bunch of items on my task bar but I don't want them to appear there so what can I or should i do to make only a few items show? I hope i'm making sense :).

i think all you have to do is right click the task bar and it will list a bunch of things, click on the one that says properties and then i thing will come up and it will say custumized and then you chose what you want to show or hide and then click ok or apply. atleast thats how mine works, i hope it works for yours too.
Hi... To have them not show you can do it via msconfig. This will take them out of the start up menu (until you want them back in again).

Go to start then select run and type in msconfig. Once that window opens select the Start up tab and remove the check marks from the applications that you do not want starting up or displaying in or on you bottom task bar.

You can always go back and put them back in again and they will again display.

This will take effect when the computer is restarted and it will ask you for a confirmation of your decision.

Have fun!
