When Vista start working great, how much time you give to XP to be obsolete?

probably 10 years from now. I mean look people still use windows 2000 especailly in a work place with the main server. Its too costly to replace just for upgraded software.

people are still using windows 98 (NOT ME) and XP has been out since (I think)2000/2001 Vista has not improved much on XP Areo interface (more of a graphics upgrade than an OS) and the Search feature I think that most Windows users will stick with XP until Microsoft can really step up to the plate and offer something that is a Major improvement. I have my theme set to a Vista look a like and I'm very happy not spending the $350 it would of cost to upgrade to Vista so I would give Vista 2 1/2 yrs to be bug free and another 8-10 before it is obsolete

I use windows 98SE until year 2005, and then jump to XP with SP2.

But Vista, No. I won't install vista, never. I will keep my XP even 10 or 15 years. Perhaps I will try something better like MacOS or Linux.

Windows 95 is still not totally obsolete yet 12 years later. MS does not support it anymore, but I know of a couple of computers still running it. I believe Windows 98 is no longer supported as of end of last year or beginning of this year. So, I give XP at least another 5 years with support from MS. As for totally obsolete, maybe about the year 2035.
upgrading even a medium sized network can be pretty costly. The hospital I work for is still running windows nt......i'm sure xp will be powering quite a few networks for some time to come.
I think XP will be obsolete when Microsoft makes the next Windows after Vista. This might happen in 2 to 3 years, because they know that some people are mad because they took 6 years to make Vista come out after XP, which is a long time.
