x86, as most of your software and hardware will work with it.

x64 is 64bit, its main advantage is the ability to address more than 4GB or base memory, so if you have 64bit software (not many out there) and you have plenty of RAM, this is what one would choose, but the truth is, 64bit software will be years away, not to mention most hardware you have may not work or have the correct drivers for them.

Final thought : Stick to XP

Basically x86 is slower processing (not ALOT slower, just slower) and x64 is faster processing. However, not alot of software is compatible with x64.

x86 follows 32 bit instructions while a x64 follows 64 bit instruction. It just makes it a bit faster.

Just go with x86. You sacrifice a tiny bit of speed for alot of compatibility.
