I am looking to run 2 computers on the same network, but unsure if they will work together.
Can anyone tell me if Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista can run on the same network setup?norton 2008
At home, I have my older PC and a work laptop running Windows XP Professional. I recently purchased 3 additional PCs running Windows Vista Home Premium. All systems are running on the same network without any issues. Oh, combination of wired and wireless on my network:
Wired: XP Pro desktop %26 Vista Home Premium
Wireless: XP Pro laptop %26 2 of the Vista Home Premium
Now I'm not running any servers at home so this is just basic network access. I do occasionally transfer files between the systems (backup of photos %26 mp3s) but nothing open for long. If you are looking for compatibility with authentication services (ActiveDirectory or an LDAP server), can't help you there. At work, my employer has all but stated that MS Vista won't be installed in the foreseeable future (way too many concerns over "phone home" features in Vista, security concerns, compatibility with legacy applications, hardware requirements, etc...).

Vista has had a lot of compatibility problems.. one thing I would try is testing the computer that has Vista on it just by itself and see if it works. It won't harm anything.. the most that will happen is won't connect. And if that turns out to be the case, then Vista is not compatible with the router and/or the program used with it.
Yes works just fine.
