If it is Vista home premium 32 Bit with Service pack 1 it will support upto 4 GB, else it will support upto 3 GB only.
I have it... Hate to say this... But the actual amount 3.5 GB for Vista Home Premium.

You can add 4 GB... But it will only recognize 3.5... then you have to minus what your OS will use and Graphics Card from the 3.5.

I recommend going with 3 GB... (1 GB x 2) %26 (512 MB x 2) If you have 4 memory slots.

The reason I say three... is memory must be installed in pairs.
* 32-bit versions of Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate: 4GB

* 64-bit versions of Windows Vista Home Basic: 8GB

* 64-bit versions of Windows Vista Home Premium: 16GB

* 64-bit versions of Windows Vista Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate: 128GB
